...of Horizons.

...of Horizons is an instrumental/post-rock band from Berlin, Germany, formed earlier this year. They've managed to create a unique atmosphere, with nice guitar techniques and a sophisticated drumming added to their sound. They haven't released anything other than these two songs, but you can follow their progress here.

Burning Witch - Crippled Lucifer

Burning Witch was an American doom metal band from Seattle, Washington, active between 1996 and 1998.
Burning Witch formed on Capitol Hill, Seattle in early 1996. After the breakup of the doom/death band Thorr's Hammer in 1995, Stephen O'Malley, Greg Anderson and Jamie Sykes formed Burning Witch. The band then added G. Stuart Dahlquist and vocalist Edgy 59, rounding out their lineup. Anderson left the band before they had recorded any real Burning Witch songs to start the band Goatsnake.
As for the music part of this album, Burning Witch is very slow and heavy with the drums slowly plodding along with the bass and guitar playing minimalist riffs. Emphasis usually put on spaces between notes, allowing the bass and guitar to resonate before proceeding to the next note. There are occasional bursts of feedback and noise from O'Malley, but for the most part the guitar and bass follow each other. One of the qualities of Burning Witch is Edgy 59's vocals which alter between a nasal and melodic singing voice to a brutal, tortured, and demented scream or shriek.
If you are searching for an album to totally change your point of view of doom metal, Crippled Lucifer is the one for you...

Electric Wizard, We Live.

Electric Wizard, Supercoven.

Electric Wizard released Supercoven, a two song EP, back in 1998. The two songs included in this original release are Supercoven (13:13) and Burnout (18:39). In 2000, Southern Lord Records re-released it with two extra tracks (the version I uploaded), Wizard of Gore (9:02) and Electric Wizard (live) (9:53).

Electric Wizard, Dopethrone.

Dopethrone is Electric Wizard's third album, released in 2000 and re-released in 2004 and 2007 by the same label, including only one extra song (not included in my upload). Around this time, Electric Wizard probably reached the highest point of their career and their music is "some of the absolute slowest, heaviest doom imaginable". The critics also considered this to be one of the best albums of the genre.

Ahab, The Call of the Wretched Sea.

Ahab is a German funeral doom band. Their first full-length album, The Call of the Wretched Sea was released in 2006. The lyrics are inspired by the story of Moby Dick and Ahab seeks revenge on the white whale (some parts of the lyrics are directly quoted from the story), while the sound is slow, creating a mysterious and dreamy soundscape, which will remind you of the ocean.

Cult of Luna, The Beyond.

The Beyond is the second studio album by Swedish post-metal band Cult of Luna, released in 2003. The subject matter is dissent with authorities, similar in some ways to contemporaries Isis' Panopticon. This album sees the rawness of the self-titled debut channelled into a cleaner sounding and more crisply produced sound. The tempo is slowed and the feeling is of a more expansive, reflective album, which almost bridges the gap between Cult of Luna and Salvation, leaning more towards the former (elements of which can be heard in "Arrival", "Leash" and "Deliverance", whilst "Circle" has the most similarity to the latter).

Grails - The Burden of Hope

Grails began in the late 90’s as a bedroom recording project of guitarist Alex Hall. He had done his tour of duty in the local underground punk scene and decided the world had enough bands. So, he kept his music to himself. But drummer and housemate Emil Amos (also of Holy Sons and OM) encouraged Hall to assemble a band and perform some of the mini-symphonies in public. A small collective of talented local musicians -- violinist Timothy Horner, a Jackie-O Motherfucker alum; classically trained pianist/bassist William Slater; and second guitarist Zak Riles, also of Harbor -- was assembled under the moniker Laurel Canyon (before the film of the same name was released) to play a couple of one-off shows. The reaction to the performances was so strong that a band was born despite itself.

Everything fell into place quickly, as if the music was guiding itself. The Burden of Hope was released under the group’s new name, Grails in 2003.

Burden of Hope, maybe the best release up-to –date from Grails, has an ambient/post-rock character and a beautiful climax, which leaves the listener full of emotions and music images.Mixing some folk influences, Grails enrich the albums's variety of sounds, making it a really pleasant listening or an atmospheric trip beyond...

Om - Conference Of The Birds

OM is what remained from the line-up of legendary doom/stoner band SLEEP.Matt Pike went on to form High On Fire and Al Cinseros and Chris Hakius formed OM.The band's music, similar to the repetitive doomy riffing of SLEEP, is a perfect example of psychedelic doom mixed with other elements too.Their sound though,in comparison to any other bands of this kind, is unique, due to the fact that the whole soundscape is produced only by bass and drums! The spirituality of this disc, captured by the great sound engineer Steve Albini, is something amazing, challenging the listener to feel the vibes and not just to listen to another album...ah,and all this in just 33 minutes...

Orphaned Land, El Nora Alila.

El Norra Alila is the second full-length studio album by the Israeli metal band Orphaned Land, released on July 18, 1996 by Holy Records.
The album conveyed a message of co-existence between Muslims and Jews, which held a concept of light and darkness. There are religious translations within the album name, "Nor" means "the light" in Arabic, "Alila" meaning "the night", "El" meaning "God" in Hebrew and "Ra" meaning "bad" or evil.
