1991
Sleep was a stoner-doom metal band from San Jose, California. Active during the 1990s, Sleep earned much critical and record label attention from early in their career. Critic Ed Rivadavia describes them as "perhaps the ultimate stoner rock band" and notes they exerted a strong influence on heavy metal in the '90s.
The EP was unofficially released through the Off The Disk-record company (OTD-15) after Justin Marler had left the band to enter an Orthodox monastery. It consists of a cover of Black Sabbath and an early version of "Nain's Baptism" and "The Druid", both to appear in their full form on Sleep's next album: Sleep's Holy Mountain. There were only 1000 copies pressed, making this a collector's item for most fans.
Note: My version has two extra songs.
The tracklisting is:
- "Lord of This World" (Black Sabbath) - (6:26)
- "The Druid" - (1:53)
- "Nain's Baptism" - (4:35)
- "Anguish (alternate)" - (4:54)
- The Suffering (alternate)" - (4:44)
